Lena Horne was a singer and actress who was considered one of the incomparable performs of the time. She was proud of her heritage, and refused to compromise herself. Because of this she became a legendary figure, who set an example and became an inspiration to African Americans with an interest in performing arts.

In 1947, she married a white man and kept it a secret for three years because of racial pressures.
